Ningyuancun Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The was named by Zhong Weicheng, Yang Yu in 1964, and was first cited publicly by the Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Heilongjiang Province. The naming section is located in the area extending from the Ningyuan Village to the Zhongxin Village of Binxian County, Heilongjiang Province, with its reference section being situated at the Sunjia Hills of Binxian County. The type locality is the Jiayin County of Heilongjiang. The key section is the Dagunzigou section in Jiayin.

Lithology and Thickness
The Ningyuancun Formation composed of purple, grayish purple, grayish white and grayish green volcanic rock and clastic rocks. It is 1673.99 m at the key section, and 340-2175 m thick regionally. [Separate Jurassic Lexicon draft entry had: Lower part of the formation represents grey and grey-green andesites and their tuffs and breccias, with a thickness of about 82 m. Upper part consists of light-violet, violet and grey-violet rhyolitic porphyries, with a thickness of 255 m.]

Lower contact
Banzifang Fm is unconformably underlying the Ningyuan Fm (Ningyuancun Fm)
Upper contact
The Ningyuancun Formation is unconformably underlying the Yongqing Fm. [HOWEVER -- Kosenko et al. (2021) do not indicate a Ningyuancun Fm or a Banzifang Fm, but imply a major discontinuity of the overlying Yongancun Fm onto the mid-Cretaceous Taoqihe Fm.]
Regional extent
[Separate Jurassic Lexicon draft entry had: The formation is distributed essentially in the areas of Binxian, Archeng, Wuchang and Shangzhi Counties. The lithology of the formation is consistent in various regions, and is possessed of distinct common characteristics which lie in a widespread occurrence of smoke double-chain quartz phenocryst and rose potassium feldspar, being in a bright-purple color, and very clear rhyotaxitic structure. The total thickness of the strata of the formation varies in a range from 340 m to 1400 m.]
