[Separate Jurassic Lexicon draft entry had: Lower part of the formation represents grey and grey-green andesites and their tuffs and breccias, with a thickness of about 82 m. Upper part consists of light-violet, violet and grey-violet rhyolitic porphyries, with a thickness of 255 m.]

Volcanics

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Banzifang Fm is unconformably underlying the Ningyuan Fm (Ningyuancun Fm)

Upper contact

The Ningyuancun Formation is unconformably underlying the Yongqing Fm. [HOWEVER -- Kosenko et al. (2021) do not indicate a Ningyuancun Fm or a Banzifang Fm, but imply a major discontinuity of the overlying Yongancun Fm onto the mid-Cretaceous Taoqihe Fm.]

Regional extent

[Separate Jurassic Lexicon draft entry had: The formation is distributed essentially in the areas of Binxian, Archeng, Wuchang and Shangzhi Counties. The lithology of the formation is consistent in various regions, and is possessed of distinct common characteristics which lie in a widespread occurrence of smoke double-chain quartz phenocryst and rose potassium feldspar, being in a bright-purple color, and very clear rhyotaxitic structure. The total thickness of the strata of the formation varies in a range from 340 m to 1400 m.]

Age

Not given; but would be constrained as early-Late Cretaceous in the Cretaceous Lexicon entries. In contrast, the separate Jurassic Lexicon draft entry has inferred a latest Jurassic age, partly because it considered the Taoqihe Fm to be earliest Cretaceous, rather than Albian.
